Dove hunting in Argentina is an activity that must be experienced rather than explained. Dove and Pigeon are considered to be plague in the area, so there are no bag limits or seasons for dove hunting them. Hunters regularly use two guns and a reloader to prevent barrel overheating, as they may go through 1,000 ( a thousand) rounds in a morning.

Watering sites are another key feature of dove hot spots. Doves generally drink at muddy ponds, seeps, mud holes and stream banks with open edges free of tall vegetation. A farm pond or stretch of lakeside or creek bank with a wide swath of open mud with no dense plant growth is ideal, especially when located near roosts or feeding areas. It's not necessary that water be in the field you're dove hunting, but it should be close. Doves, like people, want all the amenities of life close at hand.

The best example of this I can recall involved Deadeye Peeler himself and illustrates how good dove shooting can be arranged by someone who understands the dynamics of selecting a stand. It happened in a cutover milo field bordered on three sides by bands of trees and on the fourth side by a small river. Four hunters and I made beelines to the field edges. Lewis lagged behind. “I’ll be along in a few minutes,” he said.

To combine with the duck hunt you need only a two hour transfer by road and you’ll soon be in the dove. Here we hunt the male Magellan and female Ashey-Headed dove that are abundant in this region. The habitat here is sloping valleys that have shallow water lagoon and small ponds, and acts as irrigation for the alfalfa fields where the dove feed. We use the best decoys available and your guides will again be Four Seasons headed by Cane and Cano St. Antonin. The combination trip includes two days of duck and three days of dove hunting. Those interested in just a goose hunt, will be flown from Argentina to the city of Bahia Blanca and driven to your accommodations. Throughout the years, Northern Cordoba in Argentina has earned the reputation of being one of the highest volume dove hunting destinations in the world. This is greatly due to a specific area where all the right elements have come together. Located in the center of this region, Los Chanares has over two thousand acres of hills which are densely covered with bushes called "Chañares.” These thick bushes have become the favorite habitat for the golden eared doves where they can nest in all security, protected from their natural predators. It has been estimated that more than 20 million birds roost in these nests and the population keeps on growing with each bi-annual reproduction.

Cordoba, Argentina, situated in the core of the Argentine Republic, is considered to be one of the best places worldwide for hunting dove and pigeon. It is an area full of mountains and hills, surrounded by agricultural land. These two elements are the facts that permit an excellent location for bird reproduction. It is estimated that in an appropriate spot or intersection of a good feeding area and a resting zone, over 1.000.000 (a million) doves go through it in just one hour.

Because of this last reason and the fact that they are considered plague, the local authorities have not established any bag limits or special seasons for its hunt.

It just so happened that my first major wingshooting breakthrough came on a hot fall afternoon. I fought these new constricting straps and a limited range of motion, not to mention lack of balance & grip, trying to hit these little fast flying birds. I really thought I'd never be able to hit anything again.
Shot after "easy" shot went by in vain, and the frustration was mounting (as usual), until one of my numerous blasts finally found it's mark. Everything suddenly felt a lot better. And it was the beginning of my adaptive equipment inventing process. The shoulder straps had proved their worth.

Argentine is a very big country with few inhabitants. You will enjoy delicious typical food and an exceptional hospitality, apart from other services such as beverages in the fields, birdboys and transportation, among others. Contact us: info@hunting.doves.com.ar. LINKS
